Why did you choose TaxAssist Accountants?
"I started my career in a four-partner independent firm of chartered accountants before moving to a Big 4 accountancy firm, where I was fortunate enough to gain broad experience serving a variety of clients and working in a number of countries. However, I have a passion for working with small and entrepreneurial businesses, and also had a burning desire to run my own business.
"The easy part was deciding that I was going to run my own small business – the hard bit was deciding what that business would be. Having had franchised businesses as clients in the past, I knew that franchising was a good way of establishing and growing a profitable business reasonably quickly with less risk. The trick then became finding which franchise was best.
"TaxAssist Accountants seemed to have a viable and realistic business model and offered a lot of value for your money. I have always gained tremendous personal satisfaction from helping my clients grow and prosper in the past and TaxAssist’s service orientated model is aligned to the way I like working.
"While it’s not a get rich quick scheme, hard work and realistic amounts of investment seemed to offer the opportunity for reasonable reward and I also knew that I would be building a valuable business asset.
"During my research, I was impressed by the team at the Support Centre who were genuine and open which also gave me confidence that they would provide the promised level of support. I also liked the fact that TaxAssist is a growing brand. The more I researched TaxAssist Accountants the more I realised I’d found a better way of being an accountant and also achieving my ambition of running my own business.
"As part of my research I spoke with several franchisees and all were consistent in their messages -that the model worked, Norwich does what it says on the tin – basically it’s down to you and the results will depend on your effort, approach and investment."
How did you find the initial training?
"I found the initial training course well structured and gave good coverage of the range of topics to get you up and running in the business. It’s probably important to be mindful that the initial training can’t provide all the knowledge for every eventuality. However, it certainly gives more than enough to get you off the ground and importantly you know where to go when you feel you need additional help.
"It’s also worth making the most of the additional training courses that are available, including the training that’s offered to new franchisees in months 2, 3 and 6 as well as the ongoing updates.
How you have found your time to date with us?
"It’s been great and has exceeded expectations! I love the variety of clients that I get to meet and work with, ranging from new startups through to established businesses and also landlords and retirees.
"I have found that clients love our simple model and the straightforward value that we offer. The level of brand awareness is also quite high with a number of new clients saying 'we live nearby and have seen other TaxAssist offices but since you’ve opened up here we thought we’d come in now that you are local'.
"The support I have received from Norwich has also played a significant part in the growth of my business in Epsom. Having this support means I have more time to spend on servicing my clients and working on my business. Despite this I’m probably putting in more hours than expected - but it is self-inflicted!
What are your plans for development in the future?
"I have run my business from a shop front from day one – it’s well located in Epsom and ticks most of the boxes. Having the shop front also meant taking on a part time staff member almost immediately - and growth meant she became full time soon after joining. Taking on more staff is definitely on the agenda and further premises will be added when we run out of seats!"
