TaxAssist Accountants has won a top business award for building a strong and profitable network, underpinned by a support system for its national network of franchisees.

The Norwich-based franchisor, which provides accountancy and tax advice for small businesses, scooped the prestigious Business Development Award in the 2011 Eastern Daily Press Business Awards, announced this week. Chief Executive, Karl Sandall, said: “We were up against major international manufacturers and service providers, so it was particularly pleasing to be recognised, not only for building a profitable network in difficult economic times, but to do that through supporting and developing every one of our franchisees.”

The awards cited TaxAssist Accountants’ “shopfront” strategy as continuing to drive growth, with an 18% increase in the number of shops over the past year. Despite the accountancy industry struggling* the TaxAssist Accountants network achieved an impressive 16% increase in sales.

The franchisor’s Training Academy for its 185-plus franchisee network was also mentioned and its plans to build on its first master franchise in Ireland, with an international development strategy drawn up in conjunction with UKTI.
