As the franchising community celebrates World Franchise Day, TaxAssist Accountants is recognising one of the defining strengths of its network - the collaboration, support and shared success that exists between franchisees across the UK. From providing support during difficult times to sharing business ideas and local growth strategies, franchisees regularly demonstrate the values that make franchising such a powerful business model.
One of the most powerful aspects of franchising is the sense of community that develops between franchisees, many of whom build strong professional and personal relationships with others in neighbouring territories and across the UK.
TaxAssist Accountant Alex Mathew has fully embraced all that the network has to offer. Alongside building his own practice, he has supported fellow franchisees both within his training group and across the wider network.
James Mattam, Group Director of Franchising, said: “I was personally moved to learn that when Alex received news of the sad and sudden passing of a neighbouring franchisee, he immediately drove to the shop to offer support to the team and family without thinking twice. It was an incredibly kind gesture and perfectly captured the spirit of support and community that exists within our network. Seeing this occur makes us all proud at the Support Centre and while it’s naturally expected we will support in times of crisis, seeing our franchisees go beyond anything we would ever wish to see is truly humbling.
“While every franchisee runs their own independent business, there is a real willingness to support one another, share experiences and help each other succeed.
“We see this through the franchisee-led networking events and the collaborative relationships that naturally develop between franchisees. But it also extends beyond business as evidenced by Alex and there are many more examples I’ve witnessed over the years too.”
Another strong example of this collaborative culture can be seen in Essex, where neighbouring franchisees Sarah Retberg, Mark Gibbs and Tola Alli-Lawal regularly come together to exchange ideas, discuss local marketing opportunities and support each other through the challenges and opportunities of running a growing practice.
Sarah said: “It’s great to catch up with Mark and Tola to share business ideas, discuss the potential of the local area, and generally have an enjoyable chat. It’s inspiring and encouraging to partake in collaborative thinking with fellow TaxAssist franchisees.”
This spirit of peer support is one of the defining characteristics of the franchise model. Franchisees benefit not only from the strength of a nationally recognised brand, but also from being surrounded by like-minded business owners willing to share best practice, marketing ideas and operational experience.
Collaboration between franchisees can take many forms - from joint networking events and shared local advertising initiatives, to discussing pricing strategies, incentivising staff and business development opportunities. By pooling local knowledge and resources, franchisees can increase brand visibility in their region while still maintaining their own independent businesses and exclusive territories.
This collaborative environment is further strengthened by the ongoing support provided by TaxAssist Accountants’ experienced Support Centre teams and Franchise Development Managers (FDMs).
FDM David Spurrier has played a key role in bringing local franchisees together through the introduction of regular marketing and networking sessions focused on sharing strategies and best practice. These events have proven both popular and highly effective, helping franchisees refine their approach, learn from each other’s experiences and develop stronger local growth plans.
Alongside local collaboration, franchisees also benefit from the Support Centre’s comprehensive ongoing events programme, including training, regional meetings, national conferences, technical update days, webinars, forums and business development coaching - ensuring they continue to evolve and grow throughout their franchise journey.
For many franchisees, the ability to learn from others who understand the realities of running an accounting practice is just as valuable as the operational support itself. The result is a powerful combination of independence and community - enabling franchisees to build successful businesses while knowing they are backed by an experienced national network.
World Franchise Day, established by the World Franchise Council, celebrates the positive impact franchising has on local communities, businesses and economies around the world. The examples highlighted across the TaxAssist network demonstrate these values in action, showcasing how collaboration, mutual support and shared expertise help franchisees succeed independently while benefiting from the strength of a national brand.
As the global franchising community marks World Franchise Day, TaxAssist Accountants is proud to celebrate the culture of support and partnership that continues to help its franchisees thrive.
